WELCOME!

To the NORRIS WATERSHED

  "It's a Special Place"

Below are some Rules and Regulations to help us keep it that way.

The Norris Watershed is a unique 2,200-acre forest preserve managed by the City of Norris and the Norris Municipal Watershed Board with the following priorities:

       • Water Quality

       • Natural Resource Management

       • Recreational Opportunities

Three management goals guide recreational use:

      1. User Safety

      2. Natural Resource Preservation

      3. Quality Recreational Experiences

By respecting other users and our natural resources, we will continue to provide a quality recreational experience for all.  When you follow the "rules of the trail," you are helping us achieve the management goals.  Thanks and have a great visit!

     1. BE SAFE.  Bicycle and equestrian helmets are highly recommended for adults and required by law for children.  Serious injures and fatalities have occurred in the Norris Municipal Watershed.

     2. CONTROL YOUR SPEED.  The speed limit on all roads and trails is 10 MPH.  Approach turns in anticipation of someone around the bend.

     3. PASS WITH CARE.  Let others know you are approaching.  Equestrians should indicate if others should stop or proceed slowly.  Downhill riders should yield uphill to riders whenever possible.

     4. LEAVE NO TRACE AND PROTECT OUR NATURAL RESOURCES:

          a. STAY ON DESIGNATED ROADS AND TRAILS-NO SHORTCUTS. Respect trail and road closures to protect native vegetation and for safety during hunting season.

          b. AVOID SKIDDING WITH BRAKES, especially on turns, to reduce trail digging and erosion.

          c. AVOID SINGLE TRACK TRAILS DURING WET CONDITIONS.

          d. NO LITTERING.  Help us manage the Norris Municipal Watershed by removing the litter of others.

          e. NO FIRES!

     5. KNOW LOCAL RULES.  Do not block any gates or park a vehicle on a trail.  All trail building, trail modifications and significant trail maintenance activities must be preauthorized by the Norris Municipal Watershed Board (No Exceptions).  ATV's and dirt bikes are not allowed in the watershed.  Alcohol is prohibited.  No camping is allowed.
